MapPad Maps

The following maps have been created for MapPad (version 2.0 only). Additional maps may be made on request (see below). The maps below are archived in self-extracting DOS executable files. The size of these files ranges between 60-1600 kbytes. Click the name of the map to initiate a file transfer. Once downloaded, type the name of the file at a Windows command prompt to expand it. Then copy the expanded MapPad mapfile (.mpm) to your MapPad directory (or wherever you keep your MapPad map- and datafiles).

You may request the creation of additional maps. Please describe the region of interest (the bounding latitudes and longitudes) and some indication of the preferred level of detail of the resulting map (high, medium, low). The available map features are coastlines, islands, lakes, rivers, and political boundaries. Please note that increasing the level of detail, will increase the size of the mapfile itself, and increase the time required to display it.

Why is there no world map? MapPad displays maps using a Lambert Equal-Area projection. This is a very good projection for continental and sub-continental scale regions. It is a poor projection for world or hemispheric maps. Additional projections are on the list for future development, but when that future might arrive is very uncertain.
